Why Repair a Broken or Dead iPod?

There are several reasons for wanting to know how to repair so-called "dead" or "broken" iPods, but today we cover the most useful and obvious among them:

You own a broken iPod

Alas, your faithful iPod has served you well until it takes a spill and crack!--the screen is no longer visible or the hard drive breaks and you've lost all that music you've bought off of iTunes or have spent countless hours illegally downloading.

Either way, you're angry and your $200+ investment is busted.

The whole point of this blog is not to prevent these situations (those might be fixed by a hard case for your iPod or just being more careful), but to know what to do if it does happen regardless of the precautions you've taken.

A broken iPod might seem like the sudden end to a deep love-affair. People will tell you to move on. There are plenty of other iPods in the sea.

In the posts to come I will tell you how to become stubborn and not choose to invest in that fanciest new generation of iPods with all of the features you really don't need.

You wouldn't buy another car if your windshield cracked. You wouldn't return a child to the hospital because it contracted a cold (I dearly hope you would not, at least).

My view is that iPods should be no different. They are not complicated, divine creations handed down from God to Steve Jobs to you so you can enjoy portable music for 18 months before you must buy another one. They're expensive! If you know are someone that's on their third, fourth or fifth iPod this blog is for you.

I call my blog "iPod Frankenstein" because I want to show you it really is possible to bring an iPod dead for days, months, years--back to life.
